Tria Leciono: Adjektivoj

Lesson Three: Adjectives

Adjectives are words which describe nouns: "good", "red", and the like. In Esperanto, all adjectives end with the letter -a. It is important, when speaking, to distinguish this sound from the -o sound that ends nouns. English speakers tend to swallow final vowels.

As in many European languages, the adjective ending must "agree" with the corresponding noun, in number and case. In other words, a noun ending with -oj must be described by an adjective that ends with -aj; if it ends with -on, the corresponding adjective must end with -an, and so on.
