Kvina Leciono: Adverboj kaj numeroj
Lesson Five: Adverbs and Numbers
So far, we have indulged in a gentle simplification by saying,
"the word for book is libro". Actually, nouns and adjectives consist of two parts: a root (in this case, libr-) and a grammatical suffix (in this case, -o). But these roots can be used in other parts of speech. For example, the root am- means "love". It can be used as a verb ("I love" = mi amas) or as a noun (amo).
This principle becomes important in the formation of adverbs, those words that describe actions or qualities. The grammatical ending for adverbs is -e; remember that this letter is never silent.
